NSD scientist Erich Leistenschneider is quoted in this CERN Press release about a sophisticated new electrostatic trap at CERN’s ISOLDE facility that could help researchers probe the chemical reactivity of superheavy elements. New discoveries about the properties of these rarest and least understood elements could “blur the boundaries of the periodic table.” Related work on the chemical properties of superheavy elements is happening at Berkeley Lab’s 88-Inch Cyclotron.
