Hitoshi Murayama  – a theoretical physicist in Berkeley Lab’s Physics Division and a professor of physics at UC Berkeley – is the recipient of the American Physical Society’s (APS) 2026 Julius Edgar Lilienfeld Prize, which annually recognizes a scientist for outstanding contributions to physics and exceptional skills in lecturing to diverse audiences. Murayama is recognized for his work in “theoretical and experimental particle physics, as well as inspirational public outreach and effective science advocacy.” The APS Global Physics Summit is being held this week in Denver, CO.
