Daniela Leitner, a senior scientist in the Engineering Division and division deputy, is featured in this article about the ALS Upgrade. Berkeley Lab’s Advanced Light Source (ALS) is now moving forward from planning to execution, with federal approval to start construction on an upgrade that will boost the brightness of its X-ray beams at least a hundredfold. The resulting upgrades will enable the ALS to make brighter beams for research into new materials, chemical reactions, and biological processes.

Leitner is widely recognized for her work on electron cyclotron resonance ion sources that are widely used as high-charge state ion injectors for heavy ion facilities. She currently leads the removal & installation process for ALS-U.
